Answers
- 1. I want to become a referee. Where do I start?
- Referees are a very important part of our game and the UMHA is always looking for individuals interested in taking their skills as a player in a new direction.
If you have an interest in becoming a certified referee, the first stop is to attend a UMHA sponsored Referee skate. This tryout is mandatory for all persons interested in becoming a UMHA referee. - 2. How do I register for the Referee Skate?
- Fill out the Referee Registration form.
- 3. Where can I get more information on referee certification?
- Additional information regarding Referee Certification Courses can be found on the OMHA website.
- 4. How many games a week can I referee?
- The number of games each week depends on the number of referees currently enlisted by the UMHA. Usually all referees can be guaranteed two games per week.
- 5. What kind of equipment do I need to referee?
- All referees must have a whistle, a referee sweater with OMHA cresting, referee pants, a black helmet and black hockey skates with white laces.
The Referee tryout skate for the 2011/2012 season will be held on July 6 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Angu Glen Community Centre. Bring your skates, helmet (with full cage or visor), hockey gloves, and water bottle. You will be on the ice for the full 1.5 hours.
